Thing 11 - Comment?
I find commenting rather difficult because I'm not really sure what to respond. Then if I do respond is it my responsibility to check the blog again to see if there are any more replies after me? When I saw that my blog got its first few comments I was excited; however, that didn't really motivate me to comment on others blogs or even make me want to respond. I would think that comments get people motivated to write because they know people are reading it. I think students would be more motivated to write if they could get comments from people other than the teacher all the time. Students get better at writing if they write a lot, but I wonder if a blog would really encourage students to do their best writing...

I had a few of the same issues... I wonder if there's a way to be notified if someone responds to your comment? I bet there is- there seems to be options for 900 other things on here.
ReplyDeleteI do feel like blogging can encourage good writing and editing- it seems to do that for me (I try harder at least!) because you never know who is going to be reading what you type.
If you click on Settings then Comments, the last option on the page lets you enter an email address to be notified of comments to your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think that people are motivated to comment on blogs that interest them instead of commenting for an assignment. I'm not sure if they are considered blogs, but people often comment to newspaper articles online. I rarely do because I find someone else has already voiced my opinion. However, it is nice to know someone shares my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this commenting thing. I know the articles said to be clear in your tone, but it is one of my fatal flaws. Perhaps it is because you and I use sarcasm when we speak in person (or maybe because I am a math/science person), but I have a difficult time getting my point to look right in text.
